Marion, Mark and Millie are keen to set up a Community Speed Watch Scheme for Newtown & Heatherlands.
With the vast majority of the ward being 20mph, yet us all witnessing excessive speeds in residential roads, we want to take action on speeding and dangerous driving to promote community safety and deter poor behaviour on our roads.
Evidence shows that Community Speed Watch Schemes successfully deter drivers from speeding in the areas that they operate. They can also help highlight problematic areas to the council and police who will then allocate resources to enforce against speeding.
Much of the value comes from reminding drivers to check their speed in residential streets and show that communities will not tolerate dangerous driving.
Can you help your community?
If you are interested in getting involved with a local Community Speed Watch, please do get in touch with us. We’ll need at least five volunteers on board to qualify for training from Dorset Police.
